If I were to be able to beg, borrow or steal buy a new laptop, does anyone have a suggestion as to what kind? Brand?

I went Mac last fall and I'm a total convert now. Love mac. BTW, my 18 year old son wears his hair a lot like that pic! : )

I'm not all laptop saavy. I just needed something I could work on and connect to the internet to. So I got a Gateway. I thought we were going to spend over a thousand bucks. But it ended up being 600 which I thought was wayyyy reasonable. And I love my 19 inch screen!

NOT A DELL! I have a Dell and the thing works wonderfully but has many little annoyances like saying that battery cannot be charged and I need a new one. Does HP make laptops? If so, I'd go with that or Gateway. Anything but Dell.
Gosh Sara said not a dell. I bought a HP desktop this weekend when my apple troubles started. Apple is very pricey if it needs repaired. Kind of like fixing a lexus.
Consumers report listed dell as more reliable than HP. I think I would go for whatever is the best deal because they all seem to break between 3 and 5 years!!! Worse than buying a car.
I have had my Dell since 2006 and I have not had any major issues. The battery is at the point where it will only hold a charge for about 2 hours (compared to 4-5), but I'm told that is normal--and I usually do work with it plugged in anyway.
